MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ LOLLIPOP GIRLS

I, like a lot of people, have a fascination with China...and especially Chinese Vogue. There's something clean clean and pristine about it. There are boundaries they can't cross. There's a different mindset, obviously, than other Asian fashion rags. But it's more than that. The shoots look freshly scrubbed, if that makes any sense. I had another makeup post ready to go, but I felt like i really needed to have this story on here. It's so China doll...meets Nancy Girl.  I have a good friend who will be on here soon, Adele Mildred. One of the things I used to love about her when we'd get ready to go out was...all of a sudden, I'd look up and she's have aqua circles around her eyes. And it looked magnificent. I didn't do it as often, but while I was in NYC, I did get to play with makeup that way. I think it's nice the way fashion has gone and the kids are once again getting experimental. I wish there was a whole scene of these "Lollipop Girls"...chic birds with a little bit of flash...done with grace.  Notice the bare brow.

(I also would LOVE to know who makes those lovely candy pink sunglasses! But I can't read Chinese!) ♡

SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ VIDAL SASSOON MOVIE

Who doesn't know of Vidal Sassoon? Like so many iconic 60s brands, this hair designer fell into licensing and the brand sort of lost its identity as a hipper-than-hip trend. But the truth is that Vidal Sassoon created some of the most iconic stylee young clean even-today amazing hairstyles. That's why he was the adoration of all of London and anyone else in the Mod-ness scene. I would love to see this film inspire a new batch of Mods. About a year ago or so, for one of my trend reports, I wrote that the Mods would again take over the fashion world in the near future (near future for an Aquarius can mean a year or even a couple years...). And I do believe it's still going to happen. It did happen with a lot of the shows last season, but maybe with the launch of this film the rest of the package will come into reality....perfect geometric coifs and pale faces. I can still remember all the Mod scooter gangs riding around Hollywood back in the 80s. They'd hang out in the parking lot of Gazzari's (no longer around). We'd drive by looking for the cutest boys with the most mirrors on their Vespas. Maybe Vidal Sassoon The Movie will bring back a new generation of these kids...I can't wait! ♡

Not from the film but really interestingly funny...

i think my mother had one or two of these cuts. she was a total mod.
vidal cuts mia farrow's famous hair
vidal cutting legendary designer mary quant's famous hair
voila..the five-point cut.

UPDATE 5/9/2012:
I am so so sad to hear that Mr. Sassoon has passed away. I noticed a spike in hits to my blog...I've been out all day at meetings and running errands. I was super confused at the peak. But I did notice most of the hits were for the post on the Vidal Sassoon movie. I did a google search and to my dismay found out about his passing. He was such a genius. I'll do a proper post on him (and Maurice Sendak, too) very soon. RIP Vidal Sassoon. :(

SATURDAY SHOPPING ♥ LTD PUCCI BOOK

OMGoodness. I have to set aside $200 for this new book, the PUCCI book that's been released and published by amazing book publisher Taschen. You can leaf through it on their site, but there are some amazing photos below. It looks insane. It has everything. It puts skin on the phantom. I mean, Pucci is such an adored brand, design house, icon....but could any of your pick Mr. Emilio Pucci out of a crowd? Have you seen oodles of photos of him working and cocktailing? It's a gorgeous buy. I have to add this to my fashion library. Oi vey. :)They're only making 10,000 copies. And every single copy is going to bound with one of "a selection of recent print fabrics from the Pucci collection!" See some of the Prince of Prints below. ♡

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ MAJA STEN HOROSCOPE

NIPPON VOGUE. Genius. Japanese, of course. What I love about the Japanese editors, aside from their culture, food, style, shopping, beauty, designers...etc. etc. etc...is that they are willing to take a chance, to do their own thing, to honor whatever thought they have. EVEN IF it means it's young or un-Vogue. (Well, illustration and fun old-school illustration isn't really un-Vogue. It's very very Vogue. But the US edition/editors seem to have forgotten that.)

Maja Sten Illustration

If you venture over the the Japanese Vogue site, and you navigate your way through all the goodies on there, you might end up inadvertently on the horoscopes page. And you'll wonder "Am I still on Vogue?" and then you'll wonder, "Who is the illustrator who did these awesome zodiac signs?" It's Maja Sten, a Swedish illustrator who's done a load of commissions as well as her own art. See the zodiac below and see her work here. ♡
