WEDNESDAY BAG ♥ JOHNNY LOVES ROSIE

There's only one bag here...and a lot of amazing accessories. So many that I'd love to work on a new shoot just to use them all! But the bag is good enough, even if it's the only one in this post. It's the "Palm Springs" bag from Johnny Loves Rosie, a whimsical design brand that I LOVE. Especially the lip rings and the gigantic bows! They would make for so many amazing editorials and I can't wait to see what else they'll create. I know I showcase a lot of silly wonderful design here. But this is Nancy Girl. This isn't a blog about my all-black rocker simple simple side. This is about celebrating diversity in fashion. And whimsy. Whether the label is large or tiny. So I'll start with the bag and go onto the accessories...I can't wait to work on some new shoots soon or get called to do a cool styling gig so I can pull these! ♡

the palm springs bag...perfect in every single way.
love this jeweled lip ring
the close up even looks good...and well done.

red lips
a lot like Dali's red jeweled lip piece

cherry print large bow hairband...oh how many outfits I can come up based on this piece!
lips and hearts

rocka billy collection stud set

giant heart necklace...i think this piece would look more amazing on someone....i don't think this simple shot does it justice. every time you have a huge piece like this, it makes a huge statement. and that's why i love it.

who doesn't love giant strawberry hair pins???

look at this. i wish i had a better shot of it on an actual head. this looks a little creepy, but i think it shows the scale of the bow. this is what fashion editors and stylists live for. a different piece to pull a fashion story together.
amazing in red!

TUESDAY TAILOR ♥ LE TOUR DE FORCE

I was so confused this week about which designer to feature in this post. There were so many. Some are my long-time favorites while others are more new to me this year. I think you'll be happy if you've only seen sneak peeks of this design house and you'll be super thrilled if you've never heard of it. These are the kinds of designers that, for me, had candyland dreams that pushed them into fashion where they learned the right way to do things, paid their dues and took the chance to launch their line the way they always wanted to. Le Tour De Force is Camille Roman, who graduated in womenswear from Central Saint Martins and then worked at Lanvin and Zac Posen before taking the leap. I believe she's more known for her extravagantly Alice head pieces. But the clothing and everything else is equally...enchanting. ♡

a birdcage headpiece!!!
"blue damsel rose" headpiece!
bunny bow headpiece!
tippi headpiece
the fringe headpiece (reminds me a bit of 50s feather pill hats)
the "hitch" headpiece
swift headpiece (fantasy!!)

MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ LOLLIPOP GIRLS

I, like a lot of people, have a fascination with China...and especially Chinese Vogue. There's something clean clean and pristine about it. There are boundaries they can't cross. There's a different mindset, obviously, than other Asian fashion rags. But it's more than that. The shoots look freshly scrubbed, if that makes any sense. I had another makeup post ready to go, but I felt like i really needed to have this story on here. It's so China doll...meets Nancy Girl.  I have a good friend who will be on here soon, Adele Mildred. One of the things I used to love about her when we'd get ready to go out was...all of a sudden, I'd look up and she's have aqua circles around her eyes. And it looked magnificent. I didn't do it as often, but while I was in NYC, I did get to play with makeup that way. I think it's nice the way fashion has gone and the kids are once again getting experimental. I wish there was a whole scene of these "Lollipop Girls"...chic birds with a little bit of flash...done with grace.  Notice the bare brow.

(I also would LOVE to know who makes those lovely candy pink sunglasses! But I can't read Chinese!) ♡

POST SCRIPT
i just found out...the pink glasses (that now i MUST have!) are Giles for Cutler and Gross!

SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ VIDAL SASSOON MOVIE

Who doesn't know of Vidal Sassoon? Like so many iconic 60s brands, this hair designer fell into licensing and the brand sort of lost its identity as a hipper-than-hip trend. But the truth is that Vidal Sassoon created some of the most iconic stylee young clean even-today amazing hairstyles. That's why he was the adoration of all of London and anyone else in the Mod-ness scene. I would love to see this film inspire a new batch of Mods. About a year ago or so, for one of my trend reports, I wrote that the Mods would again take over the fashion world in the near future (near future for an Aquarius can mean a year or even a couple years...). And I do believe it's still going to happen. It did happen with a lot of the shows last season, but maybe with the launch of this film the rest of the package will come into reality....perfect geometric coifs and pale faces. I can still remember all the Mod scooter gangs riding around Hollywood back in the 80s. They'd hang out in the parking lot of Gazzari's (no longer around). We'd drive by looking for the cutest boys with the most mirrors on their Vespas. Maybe Vidal Sassoon The Movie will bring back a new generation of these kids...I can't wait! ♡

Not from the film but really interestingly funny...
Vidal on the old game show What's My Line?

i think my mother had one or two of these cuts. she was a total mod.
vidal cuts mia farrow's famous hair
vidal cutting legendary designer mary quant's famous hair
voila..the five-point cut.

UPDATE 5/9/2012:
I am so so sad to hear that Mr. Sassoon has passed away. I noticed a spike in hits to my blog...I've been out all day at meetings and running errands. I was super confused at the peak. But I did notice most of the hits were for the post on the Vidal Sassoon movie. I did a google search and to my dismay found out about his passing. He was such a genius. I'll do a proper post on him (and Maurice Sendak, too) very soon. RIP Vidal Sassoon. :(
