Habillées Pour Éte 2010 is a great show on the Sundance Channel's Full Frontal Fashion "network"...of course it's done by Loïc Prigent (and everyone who reads my blog knows how much I love Loïc's work). It's actually a really good study on the new faces of Paris fashion, if you look at it that way. I mean, they do show a lot of new designers who do not get any play anywhere. I'll def be covering them here. I have part 6 shown above, but you can see the rest here , starting from part 1. I do love watching these kinds of things that show backstage and elevator talk and candid chatter...as well as good fashion. And silly fashion. But I also love films that document what's going on...that's why I studied journalism. I wanted to chronicle things like this and I was able to cover a ton of up-and-comings because I only wrote for publications like Dazed and Tokion and others that didn't want to cover things/people everyone else was covering. So I loved this film precisely because it had a bit of everything and did show a lot of good footage of French designers who are young and unknown for the most part. And probably starving. Enjoy it. Keep your eye out for them. Cover them. And support them, if you can.♡
How many pieces can you count that you actually like? I can count about 3 that I think are worth the the trek and would be really cool to own. But the video is cheeky, fun, interesting...it's good for the collection. I think one of the best things about the video is the styling of the hair on the girls. Lots of good hair looks. And....does anyone know if those maid dresses are actually part of the line or just for the video? Minus the aprons and maybe even the Peter Pan collars, those dresses are hot. I think the maids are really cute in the Lanvin x H&M fashion film. You may have already seen this like 100 times. But I wanted to post in anyone in case you hadn't. Plus, I really liked it. I'll make next week's post a film post. From one of my favorite films.
Ev er.
Oh...I read a post recently on a friend's fashion blog about how she hates fashion videos and she doesn't get why they even make them (hi!)...well...people make fashion videos because THEY CAN. It's the year 2010....it's a new medium. And, maybe a lot of the videos (I mean yeah...a lot of the videos) suck or are boring. But it's the new thing right now. It's going to take time for people to get it. And some people are. Like Gareth Pugh . I think he does great branding and showcasing of this collection in the videos he's done (or Nick Knight at SHOWstudio.com). It's just like anything new that breaks into the scene....there are going to be a ton of mistakes before you see a ton of brilliance. The web isn't just for 2D visuals. The entire point of the web is that you can do so so so much more. So much more that's not even been tapped into yet. THAT'S the point of fashion videos. She probably hates this Lanvin for H&M video, too. I don't think it's the best thing ever. But I sure think it's a great effort.♡
It's already starting to get cold. Well, maybe not so much everywhere...but in some places. I do love a season change when you can finally bust out the cold cold wardrobe items. I have been looking at a lot of the stock on the Tatty Devine site and I've been wanting to showcase some of the Bernstock Speirs pieces they have for sale for the winter days. Super cute and girl. Which is just how I like it. (I especially love the gloves....they're connected. If you aren't familiar with this style, what you do is run the gloves inside the sleeves of your coat...the ribbon connecting the gloves runs behind your back. And then when you take the gloves off, they hang at the end of your sleeve cuff. They dangle if you will...and it's so so convenient...and cute.) And PS...Tatty Devine ships worldwide!♡
Bernstock Speirs ribbon hat in cream £49.50
Bernstock Speirs ribbon gloves...these are so convenient and old-fashioned fashion. love them! £52.00
these gloves actually detach if you like and then you can use the connector bit as a scarf. so cool. £70.00
When I lived in New York, my home and haunts were in the Lower East Side. Like a lot of other people I know. A lot of cool kids were a part of the scene back then in that neighborhood. One of them was what I like to refer to as an IT KID. She knew everyone, was loved by everyone, was invited to everything by everyone and she did her own thing. She also had a core group of friends who were and are all great talents with huge personalities and a fantastic sense of humor teamed with mad-ass drive. They were all mad creators. This friend of mine used to rave about David Foote . That he was funny. That he was always working on a new project or film. That he was a great friend. I met him briefly before I took off, but our paths crossed more than once. I used to think he was a film maker only...but I was wrong. A couple of years later, I heard about his NEW GIRLS exhibit of amazing girly illustrations. It was a success. NUTS in fact. Then came other projects. He recently had another exhibit open as well as a book launch that is doing really well. So I had to reconnect with him, and I'm glad I did. Because not only is he driven and talented and funny as hell, he's also incredibly genuine. If you watch the videos, it might come off like he's really not...but he gets "it"...and I love it when people get what I'm saying without my having to really spell it all out. SO...I got to ask him about his new book and projects, even though he was really busy preparing for the recent opening of his MADONNA AND CHILD exhibit, which looks gorgeous. I love his illustration style, his humor and his energy. He's definitely someone I hope to get a chance to work with sometime in the near future. (And I'll definitely have to buy some of his work as soon as I move into a new space...)

WHEN I FIRST MET YOU, OR HEARD OF YOU, I HEARD YOU WERE A FILM MAKER. BUT THEN SLOWLY I'D HEAR ALL KINDS OF THINGS THAT YOU WERE WORKING ON. AND I'D ALSO HEAR ABOUT HOW TALENTED YOU ARE. TELL ME ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS YOU DO AND HOW YOU SEE YOURSELF...DO YOU STILL WORK ON FILMS?
Funny you should say that I have a film that's being put together right now Amanda Mackey is casting and producing. Through the past four years I've been focusing on fine art and simultaneously directing music videos and writing screenplays. Film has always been the ultimate goal for me, and this venture into fine art has really helped me fine tune what I want to see on the screen both conceptually and esthetically.

TELL ME ABOUT THE NEW GIRLS SHOW...
The New Girls series was my first show. I did it to get it out of my system and I never expected such a response. You tend to underestimate and moreover under appreciate the things you do innately and for me drawing and painting has always been second nature, so I never gave it the importance I would of given say.... making a film. That show really helped me value and embrace what it is that I do and what I have always done.

i LOVE this
TELL ME ABOUT THE NEW BOOK...
The book is called Modern Fairies Dwarves Goblins and Other Nasties. It was a collaboration with author Lesley M.M. Blume. It was released September 14th and it became best seller in the ranks of Amazon a week after its release. The book was a wonderful experience; it brought me back to a more innocent place. I never thought I would enjoy working on children's books. It was never something that called out to me. But after reading Lesley's manuscript, I was tremendously inspired and I wanted to complement her incredible words with images that would hopefully inspire the children reading it. Lesley and I are working on a new book coming out spring 2012 called The World Before Us.
