SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ HOW TO TIE A TIE

Film made in conjunction with Alexander's pop-up corner at Colette.
With Aurelie Claudel, Julia Frauche,
photographed by Francesco Carrozzini.

PS...I've known how to tie a tie since I was a little girl. My dad taught me. And I used to do the military look with a tie quite often a few years ago. I have a huge collection of amazing vintage ties. All for myself. Even though boyfriends have tried to snake them from me. :)
PPS How gorgeous are the girls in this video? I like how imperfect they look...with dark circles and bags under their eyes. Unkempt. That's what I love about the French as opposed to the Americans.♡

Yes, I seem to love Jacques Demy's films. I did do another Sunday Matinee post a while back on another one of his films. Also with Catherine Deneuve. But they're so whimsical and the costumes are amazing and....they have Catherine Deneuve! This one also features her real life sister and they play these really sexy fashiony dolly twins! It's just amazing. I mean, the hair alone is gorgeous. But then you see the rest of the costumes...oi vey! So enjoy...hope you get to sit back and watch it all. Bye, lovelies! ♡

gorgeous gorgeous
i love the giant berets the girls wear in the film...plus the candy-coated van!
too amazing to even say anything...
the sisters whilst on set...amazing.

SATURDAY SHOPPING ♥ BIG SHADY HATS

I'm going to be doing two things soon...pulling out some of my larger vintage hats from their hat boxes and looking for a couple of big hats to wear. I plan on sitting a lot in the back of a very cute apt to work and talk and entertain visitors. It's sunny and old...and I think a big hat and some large large glasses would make it extra fun and suitable in the sun. Of course I wish I lived in a land like the girls in Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (you'll see Françoise Dorléac above in her gorgeous hat...she was Catherine Deneuve's sister and they're twins in this gorgeous film that you can watch TOMORROW ON NANCY GIRL!), with their gorgeous huge flowered candy-colored sunhats. Or like Audrey with her giant Givenchy that she wore to visit Sally Tomato in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I also own a gorgeous French sun hat, but for some stupid reason, I left it in storage. In any case, it will be fun looking for a few new ones and old ones, too. Be sure to watch tomorrow's post...I have the entire film but it won't have any subtitles. So you'll have to watch it for visual. You'll get what's going on, though.♡

the tour de force Marc Jacobs Taxi Driver hat. doesn't really protect you from the sun, though.
very pretty Prada hat.
the famed GIVENCHY in breakfast at tiffany's
alberta ferretti
not exactly a sun hat, but i'd wear this with some big glasses and feel great. hat from Pierre Cardin.
i own a vintage black MISS DIOR hat that is exactly this shape. might have to bring it out, too.
really gorgeous even though it's huge.

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ THE QUEEN OF CHINATOWN AND LOUIS VUITTON ♥

First, I have to say how much I love so many of the campaigns for Spring. I mean, you've probably noticed how many images I've been posting (and will post). I really love the Marc Jacobs "Taxi Driver" image for the namesake label and it'll end up on my bathroom wall soon. But I really absolutely love the new Louis Vuitton Spring 2011 campaign. I call it the Opium Den campaign...but it could easily be the Opium Den Disco campaign, too. It's perfectly done. There are images of my mom from the 70s with her hair like that and her makeup like that, too. Maybe a bit less, but the same vibe. And so I thought it would be a perfect time to post one of my all-time favorite Amanda Lear songs and videos....it's for the song "THE QUEEN OF CHINATOWN" and it's fully disco-YO. You will see the connection instantly, and I think you'll understand what Marc Jacobs was going for with this collection. Who knows...this song could have been the sole inspiration for the collection. If you don't know very much about Amanda Lear, do read up about her...ahem. There are some amazing stories about her and Bowie (and video if you search YouTube). (PS I definitely want posters of this entire campaign...!)♡
