TUESDAY TAILOR ♥ MARNI DOES DENIM

I really do love almost all the press releases I receive about Marni. When I read the subject line recently about Marni launching denim, I was a little like....say what? Why is Marni doing denim? If you've read my blog for a while, you've read that I was working on a major denim brand (art directing) for a bit last year and early this year. But upon looking at the styles of the Marni denim collection as well as the styling, I was won over. I do love it when a brand doesn't go the easy route and only work clothes to make a girl obnoxiously "sexy" with peel-off clothes. That's the way most denim is portrayed and styled. Not with Marni. They speak my language with a new take on the old fabric. I love the baggy, the sloppy, the individual style they bring to the brand and the confidence they project for their Marni girl. It's awe-some.

From the Marni Fall Winter 2011/2012 Denim collection release:
The collection is composed of 2 silhouettes, skinny and regular, available in different washes and in a mix of denim and fabric. The accent is on volume and the play of different materials is constant: denim combined with fabrics, such as wool, melange felt in a check pattern, corduroy or polka-dot motifs printed on finished items. ♡

MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ DIOR BACKSTAGE

This isn't from the new/current shows...it's something I had meant to post a while ago and forgot about it. But it is gorgeous. It's the backstage vid' of the make up and accessories for the Dior Spring Summer 2011 collection. I think Pat McGrath is the head makeup lady here (again!). I remember Dior make up being huge as a brand way back when I was in high school. I was a solid fan of their Holiday Red lipstick and Dior mascara. The packaging was gold and midnight blue. I also used to wear Miss Dior and Diorissimo fragrances as a teen, too. Then I lost touch with the brand as far as cosmetics goes and lingered more in the YSL range and others which led me to what I love now (Becca....part 2 coming soon of my review...see part 1 here). But lately all I really want to do is buy the Dior cosmetics and skincare products as they sound like they are of the highest quality (better than Chanel...sorry, but that's how I feel) and to-die-for glamor packaging. I need an extra gig to afford an entire lot of the stuff, though, because it's very expensive. And so I wanted to show this vid because it's a good overview of what you can expect from Dior as a cosmetics brand...and what you can do.♡

my high school favorite...Dior Holiday Red lipstick. i don't even know if they still make this shade.

SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ MORITSUGU FILM FEST

I just received an email with some super fun news about/from cult film icon Jon Moritsugu that I have to share because everyone can tune in and watch him live online! There's more news, but I think the coolest part is what I looks like Jon Moritsugu online film festival. If you don't know of Jon Moritsugu and his partner in crime Amy Davis, then you must be new to my blog or the fashion/stylee/cooler-than-shit world and it's about time you learned about him/them. I have done other posts about these mad creators which you can see here and here and here. Instead of rehashing the email in my words, I'm just going to repost the email he sent to me and you can read on and see how amazing it is for yourselves!♡

SAT SHOW ♥ VALENTINO COUTURE 2012

VALENTINO HAUTE COUTURE FALL WINTER 2012
I have to admit, after seeing all these shows since Monsieur Valentino vacated the scene, I actually do love everything Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli have been doing since they've taken over. I know they receive lackluster reviews. But I think there is a major difference between designing just to shock/illicit reaction and designing for your customer, which means you know exactly whom you are targeting and you stay on course. And clearly it's been working. So even though I was really resistant at first to love them, I will admit that I do love where they've gone with the brand and the collections, and I'd take anything they'd like to throw my way.♡

FIRST the fitting....

THEN the show...
