SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ 20s AND 30s FASHION

With the trend on the catwalks following Miuccia Prada's lead from last season, everything has gone 1920s/1930s flapper fashion. I hope and pray this takes off and we also see this in fast fashion like TopShop and Forever 21, etc. Would be amazing to be able to buy gorgeous beaded drop-waist dresses again. So I thought it appropriate to view some actual fashion from the era so you/we can really see how much influence everyone has taken from them.

I own a couple of pieces that I adore and one pair of shoes that I'll shoot and post up here when I get a chance. They were real finds, and I snatched them as soon as I saw them. The shoes I've had forever. At first I thought they were 70s, but they don't look like anything else I've ever seen. After much research, I realized they're from the 30s. They're just amazing. I also have the most amazing coat and a gorgeous embroidered robe that is probably one of my all-time favorite vintage pieces.

Below is a video with some amazing fashion footage from one of the first films that introduced flappers. It's called THE FLAMING YOUTH from 1928. There's some commentary, but once you get through it you will find the most amazing scenes. Keep in mind that in this era of film, it was all black and white, so there was a ton of texture going on...shiny things and fluffy things. I can't imagine what they looked like in color! Amazing!

And also as a bonus, this is 1920s GORGEOUS makeup (like the stuff BIBA does) taken from Helena Rubinstein's site. Rubinstein was a major cosmetics company from the get-go.It's amazing how this makeup looks so gorgeous, even today.♡

SATURDAY SHOW ♥ OCCUPY WALL STREET!

LISTEN...it's big business that controls fashion. It's big business that keeps you from making money as small designers. It's big business that drives crazy amazing talents like McQueen and Galliano to have nervous breakdowns and giants like Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent to step down! There's a reason why small designers and even big designers who don't have solid backers fade away or freak out! It's because big business controls EVERYTHING pretty much! I support the OCCUPY TOGETHER movement and esp the Occupy Wall Street plan. Because we can take back control so the talented people aren't run into the ground. (THAT'S my two cents...below is the release I just received.)♡

OCCUPY WALL STREET – 10/15/11
CALLING ALL NEW YORKERS & PENGUIN PRISON FANS

Tomorrow on Saturday, October 15th at 08:00AM we are calling all Occupy Wall Street supporters and Penguin Prison fans to join Chris Glover and Jake Sumner the video’s director on a protest march that will take us from Liberty Plaza at 08:00AM where Penguin Prison will perform his forthcoming single ‘Don’t F**k With My Money” for the official video. We will then will proceed to leave Liberty Plaza with fellow protesters (and YOU!) to march on forward all the way up to Times Square from 11AM.

The Plan:  Meet Penguin Prison and us on the corner of Maiden Lane and Broadway (1 block North of the plaza) at 8:00AM, where we can proceed to Liberty Plaza together.

08:00AM – Strength in numbers! Join the protest, be heard and be in Penguin Prison's video that is already steadily becoming the anthem for this movement!

11:00AM – This is when authorities are kicking everyone out of Liberty Plaza and when we will all begin the march uptown that will eventually lead us to Times Square by the late afternoon.

New Yorkers, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD to your friends, on your blogs, write about it and be sure to join us for this Occupy Wall Street march and to be in Penguin Prisons official music video, directed by the talented Jake Sumner.

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ MURDER/HAUNTED RAG DOLL

This is the strangest YouTube "guru" ever. I watch all of her really super weird videos, but sometimes they can be super interesting and frankly very cute. She calls this HALLOWEEN tutorial "MURDER DOLL" but I think it's more of a scary rag doll, which makes sense, too. Hope you like these bits of Halloween here and there...because I love love love Halloween!♡

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ MISS DIOR (IN FRENCH)

One of my signature fragrances growing up was Miss Dior. I also used to use Diorissmo for a while. I have some vintage Miss Dior hats and of course, like all, I love everything Dior, especially real old vintage realdeal Dior. I thought I should just do a Miss Dior vid for the Dior girls out there and post these two films...one is in French (sorry) and it's about Dior jewelry designer Victoire de Castellane. (Don't you just love that name Victoire? Almost as good as Pierrette!) The second is a short film about the history of the House of Dior, and it's also in French. But it's very entertaining with lots of vintage film. I always think it's very good to get reacquainted with a house once big changes have happened or are about to happen. Then you will have a lot of the history facts before you start judging the new kid on the block. So here is the double feature MISS DIOR post.♡
