♥ RICKY'S NEW YORK "PAINTBRUSH" MAKEUP BRUSHES MINI REVIEW ♥

I just got a couple of cool Ricky's New York makeup brushes to review...and they look pretty cool. First of all, for those of you who know nothing about Ricky's New York, take note...it's a place you must visit when you got to New York. I mean, everyone wants to go to the famous New York spots, which is good. But then they go to...Sephora in Times Square???? GAG! I mean, go to the places that are inherently very very New York. The first time I went to New York was in the early 1990's...I was a teenager and it was my first time flying by myself. The East Village was still scary, Pat Field's and Trash and Vaudeville were king on St Mark's Place and I wasn't allowed to walk anywhere downtown alone. I remember Ricky's then like I remember all the Kim's Video shops (another sadly old memory of the old crazy radical Downtown New York). So, for me, whenever I hear the name or see the shop (Ricky's beauty shop), I feel a good real sense of New York City and how it was. They carry everything plus some.

So when I was asked to review these brushes, I was stoked! I hope they sell a ton of them. Now, I haven't used them yet. So this is just a quick intro. But I'll write something after I've used them after a bit. I only got two to use and one of them isn't a brush I typically use in my makeup routine. But I'm going to give it a go. In Ricky's New York playful fashion, they are called "paintbrushes" and they're colored by number, sort of. They look pretty nice (though I wish they were made in the USA and not China)...and they feel good, too. They're priced pretty well, too, methinks.

The first one I got is the FLAT PADDLE FOUNDATION BRUSH #31. I think it's synthetic, but I'm waiting for an email from the PR girl to let me know. OK...she just wrote back and they're both synthetic. But I have to say that they are well made enough that I wouldn't immediately know they weren't made with real hair! I'm actually a little surprised. That makes me like them even more.

The second brush they sent me is a teeny tiny ANGLED LINER BRUSH #14. But I'll probably use that for my eyebrows...it's a great brush. I haven't used it yet, but I love it so far. it looks perfect. Perfectly tiny and very stiff and I don't see any loose hairs. Which always makes an angled brush fail.

The FLAT PADDLE FOUNDATION BRUSH is $12 and the ANGLED LINER BRUSH is $10. Not bad.

More soon on these. You can look through all the Ricky's New York Paintbrushes here...they have a lot to choose from!

And def if you're visiting in NYC, don't just go to Sephora! Go to Ricky's.

SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ ELECTRONIC CIRCUS (1981) X SUMMER WITH MONIKA

I found this video by accident looking up all I could about the band Painted Palms (which I'll do a post on very soon as they just released a new EP that I am loving so much right now....awesome band)...upon researching, I ended up on this cool YouTube playlist that had this song by The Electric Circus from 1981 called "Direct Lines". This YouTuber mashed the song up with scenes from a gorgeous old film (that I also had never heard of...but wow...now I want to see it!) called Summer With Monika...just look at how gorgeous it is! Just truly gorgeous.

Hope you are having a great Sunday. I have a lot of housekeeping and author interviews and book stuff to do...but I have lots of beauty and makeup to review this week, plus I'll also be doing more variety on here...I can't only cover fashion. I have so many creative and creatively-successful friends that I want to showcase what they're working on. Some of it has to do with fashion and some of it just has to do with style.

Happy watching! Oh and PS the song above is good, too! xx

♥ SATURDAY SHOPPING ♥ DELFINA DELETTREZ SURREAL JEWELRY ♥

I really love everything that Delfina Delettrez does and designs...not just because she's part of the amazing Fendi family, but because she has a distinct voice of her own and her work is always fun and playful but reminds me so much of the Surrealist movement in Paris in the 1920s (this is includes Coco Chanel and Peggy Guggenheim)...if you can view her work that way, it takes on a much larger landscape, so to speak. Pieces become even more special than just a fun design for a shoe or a bag or a ring.

These pieces are from Dover Street Market and I love a lot of them. They'd be such a great/special piece as a gift for someone you know who is super into fashion/style and has everything.

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ MARKUS LUPFER RESORT 2014 RULES ♥

I just absolutely love love Markus Lupfer and especially the new Resort 2013 collection. I could easily survive with only Lupfer, Giles, Rochas and Peter Jensen. :) This is so me...there's enough fun, elegance and cheekiness there to fill a few closets. And they also make clothes that are wearable. At least for people like me. I can't really get into the new Alexander Wang vibe of everything. All the brands are sort of copying that aesthetic...but I'm petite, small and curvy. I don't want to wear cardboard cut-out clothes made for tall string beans. I'll take Markus before all that anyway.

that dress is so cute and versatile! work play party!

i love a good jumpsuit esp if it looks like some rad dickies.

i love this...even though it looks like a marc jacobs set. it's still awesome.

this is how i pretty much dress when i'm not girly. minus those shoes. i'd wear regular pumps (in the states that means with heels)...and there's an M on that top...my intial!

that top reminds me of the stuff ESPIRIT used to make when i was a kid. i was obsessed with ESPIRIT back then. and i love this sweatshirt equally as much.

this is such a great example of how i do my own tomboy look. and i love that top...pretty vacant is hilarious.
