MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ HEAD SHOTS/BROW KITS
by Steven Meisel from Italian Vogue...I love the makeup in these shots. It's the makeup I love to wear, but rarely do because I don't have this perfect apricot complexion, if you will. :) Most people say I'm too hard on myself and I could pull it off easily. And maybe I could. So maybe I'll start to wear this look more often...along with some new apricot golden blonde hair (coming soon!)...But most of this look is (aside from the hair and gorgeous light eyes) are the brows. I recently decided to grow my thin-ish eyebrows out because my natural brows are or used to be thick. I won't go totally that way, but thicker, yes. I also invested in a little brow kit from The Body Shop that I heard was really nice. And I do like it. Pictures are below. I like it very much, but I don't use the little strange brush it comes with. I use an angled brush I got from a makeup artist I used to work with a long time ago.♡
gorgeous!!! love the beauty mark, too. i am planning on getting a new tattoo on my wrist, but i'm also thinking of getting a glamour mole aka beauty mark on my face. a little one. |
THE BODY SHOP BROW AND LINER KIT |
COLOR 01 which is blonde and auburn, methinks. the auburn is very similar to the color on the model's eyebrows. |

NANCY GIRL BOOK CLUB ♥ FICTION
So the next post in the new installment of the NANCY GIRL BOOK CLUB is a short fiction collection called FUKT TO START WITH (Desperanto) by long-time friend and style genius WALT CESSNA. Though I still call him and have always called him Walter. Walter has done a ton of stuff in his life. When I met him, he was writing but he was also the West Coast Fashion Editor for Paper magazine. He was also one of the best stylist (and he still is even though he doesn't do much styling these days). He's a photographer and I guess you have to just call him a true artist because he does a lot of things...probably too many to list. You might have read his stuff on the style bible A SHADED VIEW ON FASHION, as he is a regular contributor. But Walter is a really amazing, entertaining, funny, snarky and fun writer. I mean, he's way more than that...he's a really magical writer. It's no wonder his first official book of writing which just came out a week or so ago has done so well. People love it! This book is not G-rated! The writing is something closer to Burroughs, and some of Walter's photography is showcased between the short stories....and some of those aren't for the kiddies. :) For adults only, unless you're allowed to read that kind of stuff. Or like it.
I especially love some of the story titles...I think they give a great overview of what this book is about and what Walter's life experiences have been influenced by...sort of...maybe...probably:
PRETTY VACANT
CHILDREN OF THE RAVE
THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY
GUILTY BY ADMISSION
THIS STILL AIN’T NO LOVE STORY
HEAD IN A HELLO KITTY BAG
PLEASE DON’T SQUEEZE THE CHARMIN
BEER SHAPED HEART
J. MARS WUZ HERE
YEAH, SURE
FONDU WITHOUT THE “E” ON THE END
GREEN BLOOD & SPAM
MY DINNER WITH MICHAEL
Amazing, right? Again, this is not for little kiddies. I'm so excited about this book and I was so honored to write the foreword (yes! I got to write the foreword for this book and the crazy thing is they put my name on the cover along with Walt's! Trip OUT!) It's pretty awesome to see your friends do something like this and have it so well received...everyone understands what you understand and that's that Walter Cessna is an alien-talented super human. I'm so glad I've had his crazy self in my life and I'm so excited to write about it on the Nancy Girl Book Club. (It's also been really interesting that a lot of my friends have released or are releasing really amazing books...all during the same year...including me!)
CONGRATS, WALTER...I HOPE YOU SELL A GAZILLION AND THEY TURN YOUR STORIES INTO MANY MANY FILMS!!! Bra-vo. Show 'em whatcha got. ;) xxxmt♡

NANCY GIRL BOOK CLUB ♥ FASHION
This is something new I have been meaning to do for a long time...not only do I love to write posts about fashion books and books I love to read and other things book related, but I also have a lot of rad friends who have books out right now or coming out soon. And, then I have mentioned that my first novel will be out this summer.....! So I think it's time to have a feature called NANCY GIRL BOOK CLUB. Okay...let's begin....
I have two books to mention here...the first is G-Rated and more of a fashion textbook. The second is a book of fiction stories and it's not really G-Rated...it's very adult. But genius, nevertheless. I will do a post on that a little later today. I promised you multiple posts today and that's what you're getting...
TECHNICAL DRAWING FOR FASHION DESIGN (Vols. 1 and 2)
BY ALEXANDRA SUHNER ISENBERG
These are a series of books...two right now...written and illustrated by my friend and Searching for Style lady, Alexandra Suhner Isenberg. If you're studying fashion, these are really essential for you as Alex really knows her stuff.
Technical Drawing for Fashion Design Volume 1: Basic Course Book
This is how it's described..."is a how-to book for drawing technical drawings, or flats. It is a great tool for fashion design students and industry professionals who need to know how to draw great technical drawings."
Some features:
- The text is in English, French and Spanish
- The book features 14 step-by-step how to’s for different garment drawings (jacket, pants, dress, lingerie, etc…)
- A detailed section on how to render textiles
- Instructions on how to add style to your technical drawings, and a few tips on laying out portfolios
Technical Drawing for Fashion Design Volume 2: Garment Source Book
This is how she describes this volume..."is a catalog of technical drawings of over 800 garments. This is handy for fashion students and industry professionals, but also anyone wishing to know the different types of garment shapes and details. If you want to know the difference between a pagoda sleeve and a lantern sleeve, or what a notch collar and a bed jacket looks like, then this book is for you."
- Includes sections on tops, skirts, shorts and trousers, knitwear, jackets and coats, dresses, lingerie and nightwear, swimwear, necklines and collars, sleeves and cuffs, pockets, pleats, and closures.
- There is a CD included with this book, which includes all the digital versions of the drawings. So if you are too lazy to do your own drawings, you can cut and paste the images and make your own.
I love her fashion illustrations...even if they're technical...i love the style. |
I was Alex's editor for a while and then we became good friends, because her style and work ethic are both gorgeous. She knows her shit. If I was a fashion design student or someone wanting to learn fashion design, I would def have these in my library and on my desk. They're all available via Amazon.♡

TUESDAY TAILOR ♥ FIAT 500 X GUCCI
I meant to do a post on the Fiat 500...because for the past week, I've been driving a brand new yellow one and...I love it! I am planning to buy one just as soon as I figure out what my next move is. There was some sort of promotion with the dealer and the car rental (Enterprise), and the dude was like, "You can have that car...or that yellow Fiat." To which I replied, "What? I can have those boring cars...or that Fiat???" And so I drove off in the yellow gem. I didn't think I was going to like the yellow color...but I do. And I didn't know I'd love the car so much. In my past, I've had fun cars...Jeeps and MG Midgets and Beamers. But I really and truly loved this little Fiat 500 and had to answer to a gazillion people about the car every time I parked or went to a Starbucks or whatever, because it attracted so much attention (again, genius cross promotion with the dealer and the car rental). And then I noticed this brand new video created by that crazy Purple magazine guy about the Gucci Fiat 500 (which I had been looking at the other night online with my mother). I really liked this film. It was actually interesting. And I don't think it overly pushed the car. And now I'm thinking....do I want a little yellow one or do I want the black Gucci one? (I did a post on the Gucci Fiat a long time ago.) Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions. ;)♡
Here is the car I have been driving for a week. So sad when I turned it in. :(
it's like a tiny bus...or an m&m. |
i absolutely loved loved loved the dashboard and everything about the inside. |
it's like a little mouse car. |

MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ DHC CLEANSING OIL
My new favorite skincare item is cleansing oils (though I really want to try a cleansing balm, too). My skin used to be normal to combination but now I think I'm more of a normal to dry or sometimes very dry. I decided to try a cleansing oil a year ago (I think it's been that long now). I love how it gets rid of everything on my face...all the makeup and daily grime...as it also moisturized my skin. The first one I tried was by Lumene, a brand from Finland easily accessible from the drugstore. It was pretty good stuff and the bottle lasted me for ev er! When it started reaching it's end, I began researching different cleansing oils, better ones, high quality ones, to see where I'd go next with this new regime. After much research and review reading, I decided to order (through Amazon) the DEEP CLEANSING OIL by Japanese skincare company DHC. (Of course some of the best cleansing oils and balms are Asian made!) This has the fewest ingredients and most natural. It feels like I'm washing my face with some fancy fresh olive oil as though I was a young Greek goddess. The price is affordable, not cheap but not as high as the Shu Uemura cleansing oil but just as good or even better according to some reviews I have read.
The only thing I wish was that it came in a glass bottle. It's in a plastic bottle. But that's pretty much it. It feels rich. A little goes a long way, and I've noticed my skin looking and feeling supple and healthy, despite some problems I had from taking Evening Primrose Oil (which made my skin really break out badly). The box it came in was simple and lovely and the packaging is also rich and simple looking. The two main ingredients are olive oil and vitamin E. It will remove your mascara and everything. And once the water hits your face, it comes off easily with absolutely no greasy feeling left on your skin. I promise. I think I paid only $26 for 6.7 ounces. I also really love that my cleanser is Japanese. :)♡

funny and strange that people in fashion tend to like shooting stories in this what people deem as trailer-trash way. I don't know about that exactly. |
