HALLOWEEEEEN! ♥ HAPPY HALLOWEEEEN! XXX ♥

Those poor little kids on the East Coast have to wait for Halloween again (they also had to wait last year because it was postponed due to a crazy blizzard)...I hope they get to have some fun today. If I owned a cool Halloween company, I'd send over a truck of goodies for those kids stuck in shelters.

But here are some fun bits for Halloween for you. I woke up sick. I don't know if I'm going to get my Ace Frehley face on...but if I do...I'll post a photo of it on here for you. :)

TT ♥ SCARLET O'HARA ICONIC DRESSES SAVED & DISPLAYED ♥

I was thrilled to see this article about the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas spent a pretty penny to acquire and restore two of Scarlett O'Hara's iconic dresses from the 1939 film "Gone With The Wind" (which was based on a novel written by a woman, BTW). The dresses were deteriorating, but now they're being fully restored and will go on display for everyone to enjoy. First thing everyone should know and make mental note of is the costume designer (the original costume designer) of these gorgeous dresses....one very gorgeous ball gown and the famous green curtain dress (that dress Scarlett made out of the curtains when she was down and out). Walter Plunkett was the amazing costume designer for Gone With The Wind. The dresses worn by actress Vivien Leigh are now on display for the first time in nearly 30 years at London's Victoria and Albert Museum as part of a Hollywood costume exhibit. You can read more here.(PS This is also another career direction you can take if you study design or love fashion. You don't need to just be a designer. You can restore costumes and historical garments for a living, too, and probably do very well if you become an expert.)♡

the gorgeous vivien leigh in one of the dresses on the set of the film. look at how gorgeous she is! they don't make movie stars like this anymore.
from the AP: "... conservator Cara Varnell works on the burgundy ball gown from "Gone With The Wind." Varnell determined that some feathers were original and some were replacements."

SHAME ON YOU, MITT ROMNEY, AND YOUR BAND OF CROONS!

People have died and lives have been destroyed and you are out campaigning but calling it a "relief rally"?????? SHAME SHAME SHAME SHAME! You guys sicken me! I hope you LOSE! Even the governor of New Jersey is praising the president. That's how bad you suck. You turned one of your biggest supporters against you! People like you make me sick and if you win, I'm moving to France.

Sorry, people...I don't write posts like this, but seeing the Republican losers campaigning the day after this major devastation is sick. Just sick.

MM ♥ CURRENT FAVORITES: CIATE, NARS, JOHN MASTERS ♥

I have so many new favorite things that I needed to start covering them. This will be a brief little something and then later on I'll do a more in-depth review of some of these items. Let's begin...

l-r: nars orgasm illuminator (deluxe sample yea!), ciaté in gold digga, sinful colors in nirvana, love &beauty in coffee

So I have a few bits here and there from NARS. I actually remember the first time I went to New York as a teen...and going shopping alone. I went straight to Barney's and to the Nars counter because Nars was quite new then and hard to get. But I have never bought any of the illumintors because I have a huge bottle of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector which lasts for ev er. But I received a deluxe sample of the Nars Illuminator in Orgasm! Woohoo! This will last me so long, I don't think I'll need to go buy the full size. It's gorgeous shimmer, lives up to the hype. Of course.

One of my new favorite nail polishes came in a kit. I was sent a couple of kits from Ciaté (that I will be doing a review and a  giveaway with soon). One of the kits was their famous Caviar Manicure kit with some very nice colors. The nail polish in the kit is AMAZING. It's called Gold Digga and it has a very metallic gold finish, but the underlying shade is some kind of dark brown or black. So it doesn't look garish or cheap. It reminds me the the way Biba nail polishes look (in the old photos...I don't own any vintage nail polishes from Biba). It is definitely one of my new favorites. But I promise to do a post on the Caviar Manicure very soon. I just checked the Ciate website and Gold Digga is sold out due to "popular demand".

I also love love the standards I use and have reviewed before...namely Sinful Colors polish in Nirvana which is a dupe for Chanel's Particuliere...it's nice because I can wear it as much as I want without squirming at the price or being bummed about a chip (though it has great lasting power), and the other is from Forever 21. It's their Love and Beauty nail polish in the color Coffee. Now this is a strange color in the bottle. It sort of looks like a greenish brown. Sometimes it looks like a baby poop color. I didn't try this color for ages. But when I wore it finally, it ended up being a very gorgeous really dark milk chocolate color. Not baby poop. :) I think both the F21 and Sinful Colors polishes are under $3. :)

john masters calendula hydrating and toning mask and pacifica's lip tint in sugared fig.

The next item is a new favorite, though I have owned it for a while now. A while ago I was sent a bunch of John Masters items which I love. But I tried the Calendula Hydrating and Toning Mask and didn't really understand what it did, so I just put it on the shelf. But lately my skin is extra dry and I thought to myself, "Why doesn't this work? It should work. It smells great. I love the amber glass container." So I did some research and I realized I was using it totally wrong! The proper way to use it is to massage it for at least a minute (I take a couple) into the skin and then leave it on. I sort of use it as a cleanser in the morning if my skin needs a drink of moisture. I tried it this way and when I washed it off, my skin looked amazing and felt soft soft soft. So I am now sold. I also love love the chic packaging. You don't need very much so it should last quite a bit. I use it a couple of times a week when I need it.

Finally, I've been addicted to the new lip tint from Pacifica. I specifically love the smell and feel of the Sugared Fig smell/flavor. I don't know about the color. It has some weird gold shimmer in it. I don't think the colors are very modern. But they hardly show up on my lips because I have color in my lips naturally. But they are so so so moisturizing. And they smell amazing. So I use this every day. I kind of freak out if I can't find it. :) (You can see my other Pacifica review here.)

Okay...that's it for now. I am watching the coverage of East Coast and Hurricane Sandy. I can't believe what Manhattan is going through. One thing the news isn't talking about is...if New York City floods...all those rats that live underground will come up to ground level! SCARY! But on a  serious note (though I wasn't kidding about the rats...millions live under the city), I hope everyone stays safe!♡

SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ ACE FREHLEY GUITAR SOLO 1977 JAPAN ♥

This Ace Frehley guitar solo is one of the most amazing clips to me ever. If you didn't know already, Ace Frehley is part of KISS, one of the most amazing bands to have ever lived. EVEN better is this solo is in Japan from 1977. This is part of the reason why I want to have the novel translated into Japanese. Japanese kids love Heavy Metal...! Another reason why I posted this is that I'll probably put on my Ace Frehley makeup again (using this tutorial) for Halloween. Happy Sunday!♡

SATURDAY SHOW ♥ CHARLOTTE TILBURY YOUTUBE CHANNEL ♥

I know I normally do makeup posts on Mondays, but I have a lot of stuff lately that I want to cover...and I really want to post this video. I am going to double check I didn't already post this. But I did check once and I didn't see it. Beloved sexpot makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury (who does makeup the way I want and try to look most the time) has started uploading videos again on her YouTube channel! And the first one is how to get a copper smokey eye. I mean, the makeup is GORGEOUS. I have already seen a couple of the top beauty gurus on YouTube use the products she did (when they never have before...like that intense brown eye liner....I saw this and then in the last few days Tanya Burr (AKA Pixi2woo) was using it. I am so excited for tutorials and insight from Charlotte Tilbury. See the tutorial below. It's gorgeous...♡

THURSDAY SHOE ♥ JIL SANDER COLOR-BLOCKED HEELS ♥

I loved these shoes in the show. I like how they look in the pictures. But I don't really know how much I am loving these. I don't or, rather, I can't tell if they'll look pretty on the foot or strange. Would I wear them for a month and then put them in the back of the closet? I can't tell. But for now I think they're pretty neat. $1095 on Net-a-Porter.com. Oh wait...I think these were the last of Raf's Jil Sander collection. Maybe that's a good enough reason to get them.♡

WED BAG ♥ TOM FORD SPRING SUMMER 2013 ♥

Here's a video for the new Tom Ford Spring Summer 2013 collection. Tom Ford has a YouTube channel, too, which I did not know. I like some of these pieces. I mean, you know the clothes are amazing as well as the shoes and accessories. And we all know how gorgeous the makeup collection is for Tom Ford. But what is up with the hair and styling? Is this the epitome of a future beauty in Tom's eyes? I think it's very strange. But I love TF and I love the clothes.♡

TOKYO FASHION WEEK ♥ ALICE AUAA SPRING SUMMER 2013 ♥

I love that Tokyo Fashion Week is getting a ton of coverage this year. Usually we miss out on the crazy theatrics and fashion from there. Not this time. I especially loved Yasutaka Funakoshi's Spring Summer 2013 collection for his label ALICE AUAA because it was about the dark side of Alice in Wonderland and reminded me a little of that weird Alice in Wonderland silent film I recently posted. I'm sure the show was a gorgeous sight to see, as though you were at a play or opera rather than a boring fashion show (most fashion shows are borrrrring....trust me....I've been to many many many). It's got a little of that Gothic Lolita vibe, so I bet those little girls are really into it.

HALLOWEEN ♥ IDEA: CANDY CLOWN MAKEUP ♥

I DO NOT like clowns. I do not every dress up like a clown. And I would never feature any kind of clown on here unless it was a cool one and it was close to Halloween. Here is another really good tutorial for Halloween from GOLDIESTARLING where she does this really awesome version of a clown...for me, it looks like a Candy Clown gone nuts! I love the colors and the stripes and the wig.♡

ALICE COOPER "BILLION DOLLAR BABIES" ALBUM COVER: behold the amazing

The story behind this Alice Cooper album cover for the "Billion Dollar Babies" record is A-MA-ZING AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. IF you like Metal or 70's Rock or Alice Cooper or fashion stories or David Bailey or amazing amazing amazing record covers. I just posted a little video documentary that tells the story of this album cover on the novel's NEWS AND UPDATES Tumblr page and I thought I could include it here, too....because there's David Bailey (um...if you're into fashion you should know who he is) and also Vogue. This album cover is just the epitome of Rock and Roll. Anyway, you won't be disappointed when you watch it and you'll understand why it also belongs on a style blog.

I didn't get the full effect from images on style.com nor did I really understand what was so special from the first fashion films that were out following the live stream. But this really gave me such an insight into the beauty of these pieces. ♡

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ MAGAZINES AND MATERIAL GIRL ISSUE 19 ♥

I just love a magazine from Germany (I'm pretty sure) called Material Girl. Oh how I love this magazine. I was thinking the other day about how much time I used to spend standing at a magazine/news stand, combing through magazine after magazine and spending loads of cash on them. And how I never do that anymore. It's not because of the blogs. I'm a former magazine writer and editor (from some of the best in my opinion)...I love magazines. I even love the word "magazine". I love how it looks. I love how it sounds. (I love the word "mascara", too, in the same way as I love "magazine"). :)  But even when I go through Fashion Gone Rogue posts (and FGR is very very good), I don't feel inspired. I don't see anything new too often, even from photographers and stylists that I love. I mean...I want to feel the same way I felt the first time I was allowed to buy Seventeen (and Seventeen back in the 80s was a-ma-zing...especially the covers). I'll see if I can find some of those covers and add them here.

Material Girl sometimes gives me that same Tween-feeling when you fall in love (Tween as in between child and teen...11, 12). Maybe because I see new things. Sometimes I think that's because it's from Germany and not New York. But mainly it's because the editors really follow their hearts. And they aren't worried about dressing girls up like nuns and putting them on a cover. And then mixing it up with some metallic sheen. I would love to do something with them or even better, have them do something with my novel! Below are some gorgeous pages from Material Girl issue 19. I can't believe I missed issue 18! :) It's not a cheap magazine overseas, but it's very easy to order online from their site. I wish I owned them all. Look at the cover below...is that a butterfly or a bird she's just eaten? Absolutely genius. ♡

THURSDAY SHOW ♥ FIRST ALICE IN WONDERLAND FILM 1903 ♥

Very soon there's going to be a Heavy Metal Week on Nancy Girl ( \m/ ) because there's so much to that scene that I could do a post every day and still not run out of ideas. But I'm also going to start adding some other non-fashion posts on here. Which I sometimes do. I found this video by accident. But it's amazing because it is the very first actual "Alice in Wonderland" film, made less than 40 years after Lewis Carroll's death. And it's beautiful because it's old and silent. When I was young, I hated black-and-white and silent films, but now I love some of them...especially the ones from the 20's and 30's where the fashion is a-ma-zing. I will do some Sunday Matinee posts on those soon, too. Anyway, here's an odd bit...the very first "Alice in Wonderland" (which is very NG).♡

THURSDAY SHOW ♥ LA SERA'S NEW VIDEO "BREAK MY HEART" ♥

I don't really listen to La Sera, but I do like her videos and her style and her music. I think it's the whole package. I just got this video link in my email a day ago and I was happy to see it's also pretty and the song is nice. I wrote a Girl Friday post on Katy Goodman a while back in case you want to see more music (I really like the sound of "Never Come Around"...Katy has a lovely lovely voice) and read a little more about her. The song below is called "Break My Heart" and the video is directed by Cassandra Hamilton. But what I really want to know is...who styled it. :) ♡

WED BAG ♥ PACIFICA ISLAND VANILLA PERFUME (PACIFICA PART 1) ♥

Recently I was sent a box of lovely goodies from the kids over at Pacifica. They make lovely fragrances and bath lovelies in a load of lovely scents. You might have seen them in nicer stores that carry good-for-you products because they are 100% vegan, cruelty free and free of parabens, phthalates and propylene glycol (which I really love because it means it has less chance of irritating my sensitive skin). They asked me what I like and I replied with vanilla and sweet-and-creamy scents and anything that will moisturize my dry skin. I received two fragrance items in the package – a little bottle of their Island Vanilla Perfume and solid fragrance in sandalwood (which I will review in part 2 of this Pacifica product review).

If you have read my blog, then you know I quite often mention how much I love Comptoir Sud Pacifique and all of their sweet smells. I've been wearing them for over ten years. It's hard for me to use anything else frankly. But I was very interested in trying these Pacifica scents out as some of them have delicious descriptions like the one for Island Vanilla...the package says, "inspired by the luscious Tahitian islands, this beautifully sophisticated exotic blend of Tahitian vanilla...is anchored with creamy rich Bourbon vanilla." An ex-boyfriend of mine went on a diving trip to Tahiti and brought me back a few vanilla bits like soaps and oils and I was hooked. So you can see why I was excited to get this one. It's not as sweet as I thought it would be. I can smell floral-y and fruit-y things. And a little sweetness, too. But it is the most lovely delicate fragrance and I have been wearing it every day for over a week. In contrast, I had also seen a lot of reviews about Prada's Candy fragrance, which I had heard was also very sweet. But someone I know recently bought it and I was able to smell it for a while. And Prada Candy does not smell sweet at all. At least to me. AND...I think this Island Vanilla fragrance is WAY nicer than Prada Candy. There, I said it.

And I mean it.

The other thing I love about Pacifica's fragrance is the bottle it comes in. It's so dainty and lovely. It feels like I'm holding a vintage perfume bottle from the 30s in my hand. It's very pretty. And the price is amazing at only $22 for a 1-ounce bottle. That's what I would suggest you order or buy if you wanted to try it out. They also have one of those roller ball things for $12 (it's about .33 ounces). But the bottle is so so pretty. And small enough to take with you if you are one of those people who carts their fragrance around with them.

I am definitely loving this fragrance. It's lovely and lovely to look at. I now am eager to try the Mexican Cocoa, Vanilla Vera Cruz and Indian Coconut Nectar (!) scents! I also noticed they also have a Persian Rose fragrance for all of you rose fans.

Really try them out. I will have a couple of other reviews coming up on these Pacifica products soon. So look out for them. Because so far, I am loving them all! Oh and one more big thing for me is the company is based out of Portland, Oregon! And I know how good some of the stuff that comes out of that town is and healthy, too! You can check out more on their site if you like : pacificaperfume.com. ♡

SATURDAY SHOW ♥ KENZO SPRING SUMMER 2013 ♥

Around ten years ago (already) when I was still writing for Oyster, Dazed&Confused, Tokion and a few others, a friend of mine in New York asked me if I had heard about this new boutique and concept called Opening Ceremony. She explained that every season they feature U.S. designers and another country and their designers. I wort about them, befriended them (Carol and Umberto) and went to some of their private parties (which were amazing because we all knew each other). I know their roots because someone I used to know worked with them in San Francisco before they went to New York. I think they were window dressers. Something like that. Opening Ceremony has always done good things. Cool things. But somewhere down the line (I haven't spoken or emailed either of them in years), they really really blew up. I had no idea they were now designing for Kenzo. I was excited to post this video because this show is pretty well done and then I saw their names below...Carol Lim and Umberto Leon. It's pretty amazing and awesome that they got to take it that far and they're there. And they did a good job. I'll have to look back and see if they did the last couple shows, too, because I liked them as well.♡

I love the Valentino diffusion line RED VALENTINO. I and I love their lookbooks. They're so so girly and young. And they really go for it. It's all on point. Here's the new Spring Summer 2013 looks that I really loved...there are some other looks that are really really casual summer outfits, but I liked these other ones a lot more. I think I might have said it before...because I was such a big fan of Valentino and I hated how he was being pushed out. But Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli really make beautiful clothes, I can still see Valentino-proper in them and they're lovely. ♡

it's like a baby version of the big girl dresses.

i love this little suit and the shoes and the background.

i would love this little dress in black.
