SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ ROLLING STONES 1965

AND BRIAN JONES! A lot of Brian Jones. If you don't know, he died very very early on, and his death is listed as "death by misadventure", which would make for a great title for something. It's a pretty amazing clip of when they first toured North America...here they're being interviewed in Montreal of all places and comment about how they disliked middle America. I thought this was amazing because you see how imporant Brian Jones was in the band...he is the lead speaker here...and Mick is second. Plus, of course look how gorgeous they all look and how cute their style was. Mick just looks insanely beautiful.♡

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ THE BELLE STARS

BUFFALO GAL (GIRL) STYLE PART 2
read part 1 here

I recently did a bit on Buffalo Gal (Girl) Style...something that's fascinated me for eons since I was a wee little thing glued to the TV everyday, videotaping...videos. :) You can read that part 1 Buffalo Gal Style post here. I did say I'd carry on with it and here is Part 2. The Belle Stars had a hit when I was little. I don't know if it was new or old then, but they sure played the video a lot (every single day) on the local video show we watched which was called MV3 (it RULED!). They were another all-girl band that really looked cool and fresh and sang nicely, I thought. (I still do.) Though they don't sing anything about Buffalo Gals or scratching or anything, if you look at their outfits, you'll immediately see the resemblance to the girls in the Malcolm McLaren video. Dunno if it's accurate, but I'd say YEAH....they are also sporting a Buffalo Gal look.  In any case, I did love them and the below song, "SIGN OF THE TIMES". I used to have this song on my website which will go back up soon. Check it out!

PS A sidenote....I think the cool thing about the early 80s was that women especially weren't afraid to look non-sexy or non-perfect...which is why it still looks so fresh. People styled themselves back then because it was mainly their own personal style...I think one of the reasons why I always have loved this weird Buffalo Gal Style is because it's so not about being half naked and perfect. It's about being unique.♡

THURSDAY SHOE ♥ BERNHARD WILLHELM

I love love these new (collaboration) skull and crossbone boots by Bernhard Willhelm and Camper. It's a collab, like I said, and I think they're cute and original and almost cartoon...just like everything Bernhard Willhelm does. I used to own a couple pairs of very elf-ish shoes by Camper maybe almost 10 years or more ago....but I am pretty sure I got rid of them. It was a phase I went through. :) These, however, are way more my speed. Available for $460 (US)  here at ShopFatal.com. ♡
tla...true love always.
yo ho ho ho a pirate's life for me. loving the detail. just pure pirate perfection. i think i might love these more than the vivienne westood pirate boots. dare i say it.

WED WONDER ♥ LEE MCQUEEN'S WILL :(

These images of McQueen's dogs :( appeared in the Winter/Spring 2008/2009 issue of Arena Homme. Photographed by Shari Hatt.
 From The Associate Press:

McQueen's will shows his love for dogs, charities
LONDON (AP) - The late fashion designer Alexander McQueen left most of his considerable fortune to charities but also left money to his siblings, household staff and for the upkeep of his dogs, according to documents made public Tuesday.

McQueen, one of the brightest stars in British fashion, committed suicide last year just days after his mother's death.

The documents show that McQueen, who was 40, left an estate worth just over 16 million pounds ($26 million).

He left 250,000 pounds each to his three sisters and two brothers, and 50,000 pounds each to his two-person household staff, his godson, and each of his nieces and nephews.

The animal lover left 50,000 pounds for the continual care of his dogs and donated 100,000 pounds each to two charities that help animals: the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and the Blue Cross Animal Welfare Charity. Both provide care for abandoned animals and help find them homes.

Kim Hamilton, chief executive of the Blue Cross animal charity, said the group is "thrilled" with the bequest.

"It is a touching tribute to his obvious love for his dogs and his legacy will allow us to help many thousands more sick and homeless animals across the UK," she said.

McQueen also left 100,000 pounds each to the London Buddhist Center and the Terrence Higgins Trust, which helps promote sexual health and safe sex practices.

The designer, known for his edgy and artistic creations, left the bulk of his estate to his Sarabande charity with the suggestion that some money be used for scholarships at London's Central St. Martin's College of Art and Design.

He was one of the school's many famous graduates.

This is from one of my favorite issues of LULA magazine. The editorial is titled EVERYBODY KNOWS BABY'S GOT NEW CLOTHES shot by Ellen Von Unwerth (of course). So so pretty. In my other life I walk around all day with my hair done up and my dresses all gorgeous like these.♡

MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ BIRCHBOX REVIEW

I was kind of interested in trying out this BIRCHBOX program. But honestly, I think someone is pulling something on all these girls out there and getting a ton of free advertising for it. Because, you see, when you write for a publication, you get loads of product to review for free. To ask people to pay $10 a month would be good if all of these were really legit "deluxe samples"...but a lot of them aren't, and a lot of the brands they feature aren't deluxe, either. Maybe it's just me....maybe it's because I'm or I was used to receiving good samples to review them, use them, spread the word about them. Getting a giant box of Dermalogica or L'Occitane on a regular basis might indeed make me a little bit pickier when I do a review of a program like BIRCHBOX. But then again, I've done and writes about marketing all the time. AT THE VERY LEAST, I think if you are going to charge the companies to be part of Birchbox (if they aren't charging companies, then someone is being stupid) and then you're going to ask the kids out there to all pay for their boxes of samples, then make the samples ALL WORTH THEIR WHILE...ie, good deluxe sizes and good deluxe luxury brands. Now onto my review of JUNE and JULY's Birchbox packages........

THIS IS SORT OF WHAT MY JUNE BIRCHBOX LOOKED LIKE. SORT OF MEANING, THE FIRST SECOND THIRD PRODUCTS WERE TINY IN COMPARISON.
JUNE BIRCHBOX....
I received (for my $10 subscription for the month...it's $10 a month or you can pay for a year and get one month free, basically, so you're only paying for 11 months):

1. a sample of Kate Spade's Twirl fragrance. It was no big deal. It could have been a cute little atomizer or a cute little mini bottle, but it ended up being one of those typical perfume samples in those dumb little folded paper things. I mean, get some Bvlgari or something and have it be an actual tiny bottle. This had no excitement to it. It was like bleh. You can get 10 of them from the counter at the mall.

2. a Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil....okay...this is how all the samples should be...luxury product and a nice little vile of good stuff that will pretty much last a bit. I loved this one.

3. Sircuit Cosmeceuticals Molecular Mist...this was a good sized atomizer, but this doesn't come off to me as quality product. I'm trying it out, but it just seems kind of hokey to me.

4. Deborah Lippmann Stripper To Go Nail Polish Remover...OK...maybe kind of OK to try. But 2 dinky samples does not a deluxe sample make. I'm just say-in'.

5. The main thing that we all got was the Laura Geller Baked Blush N Brighten...I got one that's pretty gold and bronze and not pink at all. It's a sample...because it's regular size and costs a bit if you purchased it from a store...but I don't think I'd even buy this product for $10. So is it a rad sample? Maybe. Maybe not. We shall see.

THIS IS MY JULY BIRCHBOX...SORT OF. ;) THIS MONTH WAS CURATED BY CYNTHIA ROWLEY. I DON'T OWN ANYTHING BY CYNTHIA ROWLEY. BUT I RESPECT HER AND LIKE HER AS A CREATOR. WOULD LOVE TO WORK FOR HER MAYBE.
 JULY BIRCHBOX...
1. JOYA PARFUM...This was a tiny little roll-on...it's kind of cool looking. But TINY. And not really my kind of scent.

2. NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Multi-usage Dry Oil....this looks good. It's a tiny bottle, but a nice bottle...it's a nice luxe product and a nice luxe brand. I love this.

3. PHILOSOPHY Purity facial cleanser...I dunno. It's a nice size. But you can get these samples going to the Philosophy counter in any department store. So dunno why this is in the package.

4. REDKEN Shine Flash...it's a good size. But Redken always hands out truckloads of product at every fashion event and fashion show. So getting even more Redken product is like...so like whatever.

5. YBF Beauty eyebrow pencil...this is a good-enough-to-use product...I mean, I'm using it. It's a normal size. Looks like a Korean cosmetic brand. But mine already broke. And the packaging seems cheap. So is it OK...sure. Is it amazing. No.

Then as a bonus we all got one of those yummy Almond and Apricot nuts and stuff snack bars. It was good. I buy those from Starbucks. But how does that even fit into a beauty program?

My thoughts are if anyone wants to hire me to oversee one of these programs, I will. Because there are so many beauty brands like Sisley or Metier De Beauté or Fresh or L'Occitane or or or....that there could be really gorgeous packages in the future. I think the UK has something called a Glossy Box that has gorgeous product including Nars in there. I wish we had that. I don't know if I will continue with Birchbox. Maybe if I was 13 it would be rad. But it's not a big deal thus far to me. I'd rather get in the car and go to the beauty counters I love and ask for samples that way....because they'd be amazing and FREE.♡

SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ SUMMER LOVERS 1982

I should do a post about Daryl Hannah...in the future. But for now, take some time to watch a little bit of an extremely stylee summer holiday film from way way back in the day. Summer Lovers is awesome. It's part of the reason why I've always wanted to go to Santorini. I have been working for too long. I used to take so many vacations. But now I don't even know how long it's been since I had a proper holiday. :(♡

SATURDAY SHOW ♥ LACROIX @ DESIGUAL

I know it seems odd to see the new Christian Lacroix Haute Couture collection designed by someone else, albeit someone who worked under Lacroix for like 17 years. But I mean...wasn't all that pressure supposed to be for the main brands/labels so that the masters could work on their couture? When did couture also become such a money maker that they kicked the namesakes out and had their number two made number one? I wasn't really that excited to see the Lacroix Haute Couture show...if you didn't know...IT'S NOT LACROIX! But I was so so so so excited to see the also-odd-at-first-to-think-about Lacroix-designed for Spanish label Desigual collection! The Dream Collection 2011...♡

The gorgeous Tony Ward is also featured ;) :

And images....so cute. LOVE Lacroix! Support Lacroix! I wish I had my Lacroix shoes to show you...but alas...they are in storage. :(

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ IRIS VAN HERPEN 2012

Now here's something fresh to look at. It's the Iris Van Herpen Haute Couture Fall Winter 2011/2012 show...There are a lot of comments that they wish Iris was the new creative head at McQueen...I don't know. I'm not sure. I do think she's super talented. Gorgeous show. Gorgeous cast and makeup. She's Dutch, which is why everything is beautifully done. ;) See for yourself...♡

THURSDAY SHOE ♥ KEITH HARING WEDGES

I love everything Keith Haring and sometimes I can't believe I was alive while he and his homie Jean-Michel Basquiat were running around New York City. Sigh. There's something about Keith Haring's work that always looks so 80s but never looks played out. There's a video of early early Madonna performing in a jacket painted by her friend Keith Haring. Yes, they all hung out together in the then-seedy Lower East Side of Manhattan. Those were the days.

And these are the shoes. They are awe-some. Nicholas Kirkwood Keith Haring Wedges available at Colette...of course.♡

There's a lot of old old madonna stuff where Keith has painted her clothes up...I can't find the one with the good jacket, but here is one from 1984 where you can clearly see it's all about Keith:

WED BAG ♥ LESPORTSAC PET CARRIER

So now that I have the cutest dog in the world, LOTTE, of course I'm going to be showcasing fashion-y things for your cute dogs, too. Today's WEDNESDAY BAG post is about the LeSportsac Pet Carrier. I love the one I see in the first image with the gold hearts, but I don't see it on the actual ordering page. The LeSportsac site is always kind of janky. Which is odd because the bags are really well made and kind of a posh insider thing. I own too many to count and I love them. The pet carrier is $98...but I promise you it will last for years! See the styles below but I'll try to find the one with the gold hearts available online, too.♡

i love that gold heart pet carrier.

WEDNESDAY BAG ♥ HOSTESS HOW-TO (NOT)

Here are some tips for being a gracious hostess to the person(s) you've invited into your home...I might have issues like a lot of people do with their parents. But one thing I am proud of is that my mother really taught my brother and I how to treat people especially if they are in our house. Unless they're your official roommate, everyone should really make their guests feel at home and at ease......

1. DO NOT LET YOUR CAT SLEEP ON TOP OF YOUR GUEST'S HEAD IF THEY HAVE TOLD YOU THEY ARE REALLY ALLERGIC TO CATS. Now, come on, people. If someone says they are deathly allergic to cats and you actually bring your cat and place it right on top of the pillow they are sleeping on...you have problems. (People actually do this...it's unreal.)

2. DO MAKE SURE THERE IS DRINKING WATER IN THE HOUSE IF YOU ARE LEAVING FOR WORK/THE DAY. It's really weird when you are staying with someone, and you wake up to find the house empty and no drinking water. Maybe some of you live where the water coming out of the tap is healthy. But if it's not, it would behoove you to make sure there is water for the guests to drink or make tea or coffee when they get up so they don't have to leave the house to get water and then come back and make tea. That's just wrong.

3. DO KEEP DINNER PLANS WITH YOUR GUESTS IF YOU HAVE (a)SUGGESTED DINNER PLANS YOURSELF TO YOUR GUESTS AND/OR (b)YOUR GUEST HAS ASKED YOU IF YOU'D LIKE TO CATCH DINNER. Don't get excited and say things like,"YES YES!! LET'S  DO THAT!" to your guest and then run out later without a word only to return to the house with a giant pizza all for yourself.  Additionally, do not act passive aggressively when you realize your guest is confused and/or hungry because they didn't know you were blowing them off to get your own giant pizza. Additionally to that, do not, after you have realized you have blown off your dinner plans with your guest who is now probably starving, take your giant pizza into another room and eat it like a hoarder as your guest sits bewildered in the other room...hungry and awkward.

4. DO NOT USE YOUR GUEST'S FANCY BATH PRODUCTS AND/OR BEAUTY PRODUCTS SECRETLY WITHOUT ASKING. This is gross. It's the grossest thing when you go to your face cream and see cat hair inside. It's also very frustrating when your guest has a new fancy shampoo and then she sees it's almost finished because you are taking three showers a day and using her products. Just don't. It's gross. At the very least, ask if you can try it out.

5. IF YOUR GUEST DOES NOT HAVE A CAR AND YOU LIVE IN A PLACE WHERE YOU MIGHT NEED A CAR TO GET BASIC NECESSITIES LIKE TOOTHPASTE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, DON'T TELL THEM YOU'RE TAKING THEM TOMORROW "FOR SURE" AND THEN BLOW IT OFF AND THEN TELL THEM YOU'RE TAKING THEM THE NEXT DAY "FOR SURE" AND THEN BLOW IT OFF AGAIN. I mean, come on.

6. DON'T COPY EVERY HAIRSTYLE THEY HAVE EVERY DAY. It's just weird. Maybe you have a stylee friend who likes to get gussied up. But it's just weird when you copy her hair every day and/or outfit every day. Can you say SINGLE WHITE FEMALE?

7. DON'T LEAVE THE HOUSE WHEN YOU ARE BOTH SUPPOSED TO BE GOING SOMEWHERE TOGETHER WITHOUT SAYING SOMETHING LIKE, "I'LL MEET YOU OUTSIDE." I consider this part of single-child-syndrome (no offense...I'm sure some or a lot of you single children have the best manners ever...but others do not).  It's very odd when you're getting ready and you walk out of the room and find the house empty. Likewise, do not get out of the car and run away into the store and leave your guest trailing behind. Just weird. It's not all about you.

8. WHEN YOU SEE YOUR GUEST IS MAKING A BIG EFFORT TO CLEAN THE HOUSE BY WASHING THE DISHES EVERY DAY AND MOPPING THE FLOORS AND TIDYING UP SO THEY ARE NOT A BURDEN AND GIVING YOU SPACE, DO NOT COME IN AND THROW A BUNCH OF DIRTY DISHES INTO THE SINK AND TRASH ON THE FLOOR. It's also very weird. Your guest is obviously trying to help out and keep everything nice for you as a thank you. Appreciate it. Your guest is not your maid.

I know this post is weird. But I'm so sick of all the gauche behaviors out there. I get some people never learned. But that's why I did this post. No matter what (unless they are hell in a basket), just be nice. It will come back to you. It's just as hard to be a guest as having a guest in your home. Some people don't like to have guests...I guess I'm different. My homes have always been warm and well-received because I like having people over. If you hate it, then just don't. But don't say yes and then make your guests feel unwelcome.
Don't be gauche!

from dictionary.com:

gauche[gohsh]–adjective

lacking social grace, sensitivity, or acuteness; awkward; crude; tactless: Their exquisite manners always make me feel gauche.

OH YEAH...HERE'S A BONUS NUMBER 9:
9. If you know your cat is going to pee and poo all over the bathroom like a human if you don't clean the litter box, then do clean it instead of leaving it and letting him pee and poo all over the floor and expecting the guest to clean it up!

TUESDAY TAILOR ♥ UNIQLO & CACHAREL

I heart Cacharel (as you already know if you read my blog on a regular basis). And I heart Uniqlo (and would love to work with/for them in the very near future). It's just like that old advert that says you got your chocolate in my peanut butter...you got your peanut butter in my chocolate. Because this collab that Uniqlo is doing with these classic Cacharel prints is GENIUS.

From the Uniqlo site:
"Cacharel," an established brand that continues to attract women throughout the world, was created by Jean Bousquet in Paris in 1958. Uniqlo has collaborated with Cacharel to revive the greatest print patterns from its Spring/Summer 2001 through Spring/Summer 2006 collections, designed by the duo Clements Ribeiro (Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro). The patterns feature Cacharel's pop and feminine motifs, as well as its unique color combinations." ♡
