TUESDAY TAILOR ♥ YSL PROMO BOOKLET

This isn't new, but I kept forgetting to do something on it...until this week. I think it's called the YSL "Manifesto" for Spring Summer 2011 Edition. (At least that's what I got from the title on the front cover.) I love these kinds of things...whether you call it a "magazine" or a promotional booklet or a sort of branded publication...I love them. This is what I love to do, because I have always loved these kinds of branded projects since I was a kid...AND I know people other than myself also love them, too. My brother said they were handing them out by his place (and he saved them for me! How nice, right?! Thanks, Ef!). The booklet comes in a bag featuring a pic from the SS 2011 YSL campaign featuring Arizona Muse, a new IT-MODEL that I really like, screenprinted in gold on black fabric. I like it. It's pretty cool, and I've looked at the art director credit and will be contacting that agency soon. The only thing I'm confused about is the YSL seems to be screenprinted...upside down. And I don't know if it's on purpose and I'm missing something, or if this was a printer's mistake and that's why they got passed out. Maybe I'll find out one day. (This booklet really makes my want for a new office grow even more...all I've been dreaming about lately is what my new office OR studio will look like and what will I keep there...like these types of fashion things.)♡

why is this hanging the logo upside down? hmmmm.
still fantastic

MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ BECCA REVIEW! part 1

I have a lot of Becca to review. So if this starts getting too long, I'll have to break it up into two parts.

First of all, if you're into cosmetics and innovations in cosmetics and also innovations in design of cosmetics...and maybe branding and trends in general....then you've no doubt noticed or heard about BECCA. It's a relatively newer brand from Australia. Its mission is to create product that makes women (or men) look healthy, glowing, fresh, natural and glamorous in a subtle way. Sort of. They're more along the lines of Bobbi Brown or Nars, in that it's mostly neutrals. But I think Becca is acres different than the other two brands. It's so so very modern in its concepts and packaging. And final effect. Basically if you're looking for a China-doll-white face and bright Hollywood-red lips, Becca is NOT a range for you.

just some of my Becca products....these have become some of my all-time favorite cosmetics.
I heard about Becca from various make-up artists and various YouTube gurus (which I LOVE because there's something for everyone). Some of their products are staple pieces in a lot of cosmetic artist kits. Others are new. The products are quite pricey (even for the Aussies...which makes no sense. I hope they cut those natives a break in the future...seems almost more expensive there!), and the packaging looks very, um, military at first to me. Industrial. But the longer I've been using them and looking at them, they almost look very 20's to me now. Especially when you have a few products sitting on your table together. Ends up with this very Deco vibe. OK OK OK...enough ramble...onto the reviews:

BECCA SHIMMERING SKIN PERFECTOR...THE OPAL SHADE IS IN THE CENTER.

BECCA SHIMMERING SKIN PERFECTOR
Let's start with this as it seems to be everyone's favorite glow product/primer. I really was so so interested in using this Shimmering Skin Perfector, but it's a steep buy. But I did end up buying it a while ago, figuring that you only use a couple of tiny dots...and it comes in a huge bottle. So it will basically last for a long long long time, making it worth the price. This skin perfector is everything it's stacked up to be....just a little bit rubbed into the cheekbones, temples, under the eyebrow, maybe the bridge of the nose (a touch), Cupid's bow (upper lip) and a bit on the forehead...and you look like you're healthy and glowing. I LOVE this product so so much. I rotate between this and my Cosmetics a la Carte Shine Illuminator. I have the color OPAL, but it comes in so many other shades, too. Even if you love your current make up, but you want something to make it a bit more modern or you need something to add a glow to your skin if it's turned a little dry, try it.  I promise you will love it. $41.00

BECCA PRESSED SHIMMER POWDER IN PRINCESS. THIS IMAGE DOESN'T DO THE COLOR JUSTICE.
BECCA PRESSED SHIMMER POWDER in PRINCESS
I know I JUST did a big blusher review recently. And though I still love the ELF blush I mention in that post, I have been using a new blush for the past week. And I love this, too! It's the Pressed Shimmer Powder in the shade Princess. At first I didn't know what this was supposed to do. The box it comes in doesn't really say, so I went online and read some reviews to see how other people have been using this. And I realized it IS a blush. I really wanted it for the compact (feels very posh), but now I am addicted to the product inside. It's a gorgeous pink/gold blush that adds even more glow and a bit of pink to your cheeks. I am so in love with this product. Plus, I do still love the compact itself. You can layer it so it's a little heavier or keep it super super light. I can understand why they called this Princess (which I also love....!) as it's just GORGEOUS. Sorry I keep using that word, but it is gorgeous. :) Also a bit pricey but if it makes you feel like a princess, then it's totally absolutely worth it and I support your future purchase. :) $38.00

BECCA CREAM EYE COLOR QUARTZ

BECCA CREAM EYE COLOR in QUARTZ
This is a gorgeous kind of oyster-pink shimmery cream eye "shadow".  It's more like a wash and even though it's supposedly a shimmer color, it looks so so natural and subtle on. Hard to describe. It flatters your eyes. And your skin. Which is a good way to describe all Becca products...they really do their best to flatter a face. It's a good go-to easy eye cream if you're low maintenance but want to look put together and modern. This Becca Eye Cream in Quartz is one of the first Becca products I nabbed, and I'm really happy with it. If it helps, the Becca site describes this as a "silvery-nude pink". $28.00

BECCA CREME BLUSH IN AMARYLLIS

BECCA CREME BLUSH in AMARYLLIS
I do still love this Amaryllis creme blush and will use it probably when the weather gets a bit colder. I have a larger review here. But I'll just say it is beautiful, fresh, light...though I'm still working on the lasting factor. It fades away quite quickly on me. $30.00

This is getting a bit long, and I do have a lot more to review. So I'll put the rest of it in part 2. See you then and thanks for reading!♡

MAKEUP MONDAY ♥ GUY-LINER TUTORIAL

Guy-Liner....Get it? Guyliner VS eyeliner? It's a NARS Guyliner tutorial from one of my other favorite YouTube beauty gurus, Wayne Goss, who is a bit of a legend. He's very straight forward and cuts to the chase. I love his vids, but I thought this was especially cool for the boys. The look is so easy and so well-done, of course. I'd love to see this on a girl, too...minus the beard. :) Check  back later for my other MAKEUP MONDAY beauty review! Now here's Wayne....♡

SUNDAY MATINEE ♥ UNGARO 2011 PARIS

EMANUEL UNGARO 2011 PARIS FASHION WEEK...
BY GILES DEACON.

The  garden party...I remember this event. I've seen things about this show. BUT I've never seen this video of it. It's gorgeous...I mean, this IS Fashion Week in Paris. If you've never been to Paris Fashion Week and you've never attended some really goooood events there, this is how magical they can be. And overflowing with the tallest amazing-looking girls.  They're unreal in person. And in this video we get to see a lot of what I called the New Fly Girls including rad black model (or dark model sounds better?) Leomie Anderson and insanely tall-and-thin Joan Smalls. Joan Smalls does not look like a real human being. She's so amazing looking. She looks like a real super model to me in this video.

that's LEOMIE on the left....have to figure out who is on the right and print it here....GORGEOUS.
And I really love love the Giles Deacon collections so far. If you've read about me on this blog, you know I knew a lot about Ungaro from the age of around 8, because he was my mom's favorite designer. She taught me about his signatures and colors. And this feels like those stories my mom told me when I was little. I'm going to email this video to her right now and see what she thinks. I mean...I love Ungaro. And it was so sad to see it so disrespected. I'm SOOOOOOO happy Giles Deacon (genius) is taking care of it like it's made of gold. PS Please watch til the end because, after a bit, they really show how beautiful the clothes are up close.♡

doesn't this sort of remind you of a Roxy Music album cover?

matching petit-fours
this looks so new but so Ungaro to me.

SATURDAY SHOPPING ♥ TOFER'S EGGMAN

Okay...first I have to say that these egg pendants that artist and very good friend Tofer Chin did with LA jewelry star Han Cholo are not new and maybe not even available anymore (though maybe he should consider doing one more run?). But I just had brunch with Tofer and he reminded me of these pendants. I ordered two of the gun metal "Eggman" pendants way back or well...about 2 or 3 years ago. I kept one and gave one to a friend who works in fashion. They are amazing. I really do hope one day to get the gold version. He also has some cool stuff happening with his eggs that I don't think I can share with you YET, but I will as soon as I have the green light and maybe I'll have him do a guest post one day soon. He's a total foodie (contributes to the blog called DISHLICKER), and he's a very stylee boy...man. He's not a boy anymore. :) I'm sure he'd have lots of good things to report on or he might show some of his photographs or paintings or drawings or eggs or sculptures. I really need to get a lot of my creative friends on here...writing about Tofer really makes me think I've been lagging on that cuz why haven't I asked him to guest blog yet??? (Hey, Tofer! If you want to guest blog on here....let me know!) Anyway...check out Tofer Chin's site and also check out Han Cholo's site...and then go try to find these amazing amazing Eggman pendants and let me know if you find one, too.♡

GIRL FRIDAY ♥ HOT COSMOPOLITAN COVERS

When I was growing up, I had a couple of very teenage uncles from London who had posters all over their rooms....not only of rock stars and British pop stars, the closet doors were covered with all these amazing hot hot hot Cosmopolitan covers featuring hot mostly-iconic models and imagery. I miss those old Cosmo covers, or the way magazines used to have gloriously glamorous covers that were all about style....not appeasing advertisers and selling MORE MORE MORE. I think they had so much style and sexiness to them. There are hardly any female-targeted publications with covers like these anymore. (Well, not mainstream publications like Cosmo.) Scavullo shot most or all of these...I think you can easily see a style pattern, a vision from a visionary, when you scroll through them all. They're chic, sexy, subtle, intense. I think even at a tiny age, I knew these covers were sexy and strong.

Sometime in the 90s, everything changed. There was no more iconic Helen Gurley Brown running the show (she wrote Sex and the Single Girl, by the way and, for me, really spelled out what feminism was...again, for me....which meant you can really own your femininity and still be strong and independent). And there was no more Scavullo shooting the covers. And replacing gorgeous interesting models were/are the lackluster, boring, cereal-box celebrities. Ick. I'll take these old covers over any of the new ones ANYTIME and EVERY TIME. If you print these all out and pin them up side-by-side on a wall, you'll see how amazing the entire body of work is. I'll do a proper post on Scavullo and his women in the future. But I've been wanting to do this Cosmo vintage cover post for eons because these were some of my biggest fashion influences growing up. Just so so gorgeous.

PS I am writing this August 2012...I am going to definitely do a Gia post soon. Just look at her covers. I just think there was something really different going on then with the models. Her face especially says so much is going on in her head. I think this era of supermodels was really magical. I think it's so strange how they're all so 12-year-old looking now.♡
